Peer Website Review from Chloe Moulding
The website on a laptop is super easy to navigate with each section clearly sign posted. All of the hyperlinks work correctly and direct you to the right section. The variety of photographs work well as it presents the photographer with multi-functional skills in each era. The gallery layout in rows works nicely, it gives a broad view to all of the images. The home page is a nice feature which is presented on a continuous loop, however, to strengthen this section it would be good if each image was hyperlinked to the appropriate portfolio as a quick and easy navigation. Also once you are viewing a portfolio you have to then direct back to the menu bar to move to another, so possibly the addition of a back button in each portfolio may make it easier to move around the site. Within each portfolio a small description of the work may help as looking into the personal it is very clear that the work seems to be from the same series as they are very similar, however there is no description to state what they are and what they are for. As well as this the ‘getting ready’ portfolio would benefit from a description as there are so many colours and variety of photographs that it does come across rather confusing as to what I am viewing as you are getting ready. It is clear it is to do with make-up but a brief description of why or how or who the images were created for would strengthen this section. Would it be more beneficial if the gallery layout can be clicked to open the images in full view? To allow for zooming. Or is this a decision so that the audience must get in touch to gain more details or closer inspect images. Having a menu bar in the blog may also help for when you have more posts, if not the audience is required to type out what they are looking for on your menu bar, however it may be that they just want to browse, and a specific category may capture their attention. I believe that a contact section would work as you state in your ‘who am I’ section that the viewer can view your social media, however there is no link or name stated to be able to find you. Or if I wanted to work with you, I wouldn’t know how to get in contact. I would possibly consider removing personal, as each of your portfolios are all personal work with non being commissioned so it feels a liitle out of place. With majority of the images in that section being portraits could these not be moved into them. Also, within the portrait portfolio the 3rd image of the girl with pink hair in the purple top I would consider removing as the other images keep a consistent style of lighting and shooting, whereas this image is an extremely different style, and is possibly not as strong as your other images, but this section could be filled with some portraits from the personal like suggested above. In the ‘getting ready’ portfolio I would suggest that you could narrow down the image count as there seems to be excess but this could be due to the bold colours and variety in subjects, but the triptych of layering make up on existing photos and the triptych of the aftermath of makeup on the desk could be narrowed down and form one triptych, for example one face in the centre of two desk images. Just as these two triptychs seem to hold very similar images, it doesn’t feel necessary to keep all three of each.
