Reflection of Degree Show Work
So far during final major project I have focussed my work on the process a woman takes to ‘get ready’ and how they present themselves to their peers. I wanted to make this long process more visible as it is often overlooked and we as the viewer only see the outcome. I repeated my own process of applying make-up in alternative locations (bedroom and studio) to get a better understanding of why and how I felt towards this task. Moving on to my peers, I continued this routine investigating the difference between our methods of application. However, I started to get a bit lost with the subject as I was mixing these action shots with product photography to show the power make-up had towards its user. I felt like I was trying to make the narrative fit the images and with a bit of persuasion from my tutors felt it would be more beneficial to develop the project into a commercial portfolio that I could use outside of university. This portfolio will show a mixture of portraiture and product photography to showcase my skills within the different areas that I enjoy. Simplifying the project will allow me to refine and focus solely on developing my technical commercial skills withoutworrying about a narrative.
