The Tetley Exhibition Visit

Justin Fitzpatrick: Alpha Salad

Fitzpatrick presents a "chronological narrative from soil to table. Beginning with seed germination and photosynthesis, moving through to consider agricultural and industrial labour, food preparation and fine dining, the exhibition culminates in a reflection on taste, class, objectification and spirituality" (The Tetley, 2020).

The work presented was a compilation of fine art, documentation and photography which offered a good variety of visual imagery. However, most of the work throughout this project was hung from the ceiling using fishing wire, giving the artwork room to breath. The building itself is old with brown varnished panelling and brick fireplaces that I found distracting from the actual artwork. On the other hand the colour tones of some of the artworks shown in both images above appear similar to the interior but it just seems a bit overbearing at times.

Beth Shapeero: The Shape of Things

Beth's work presents a collection of collaborative artwork that encourage the artists to lose caution and just express themselves without worrying about the outcome. The work has a large variation of colour, scale and medium, predominantly paintings on fabric. I love the way Beth has hung her work on different levels and positions so the audience can immerse themselves within her curated world of art as you have to walk between each piece. The installation of this exhibition seems simple but effective using wooden strips along the walls which act as a shelf for the matching beams above the space to hang each print from. Alongside her physical artwork, Shapeero has presented a series of black and white photos that show the making process of some of the art. The monochromatic colour palette is a strong juxtaposition from the intense colours used in the paintings.
